R. S Stokvis e Zonen
Hello,
I bought an old bicycle a couple of ago (R. S. Stokvis e Zonen)-the man I bought it from thinks it's at least from the 1950's. As I found out that it's from the Dutch manufacturer R S Stokvis & Zonen and didn't find too much information on the net, I thought I should contact you and see if you could help me. As I'm going to try to recover it's original status as much as possible I'd really love to be able to identify the bicycle, model, year, etc. Has anyone got any information that you could please send me?
Thank you very much

Re: R. S Stokvis e Zonen
Good day Marlin,
First of all welcome and congratulations on your purcase of this bicycle.
It might be an early Stokvis bicycle indeed, there seem to be indications enough by the way the bike looks to indicate 50's.
If you could locate a frame-number on the frame that would help tremendously to find information of it's date of production and if the wheels are original the hubs will also have indications of the age.
Just clean everything real good and take pictures of the hubs and the frame-number and soon enough there will be loads of people here able to help you.
I own a Stokvis bike as well, they are lovely!
The rack is original, the seat isn't, the original lamp is most likely the one higher up the other is a replacement as far as I can see it seems to have been painted over but I can't tell too well by your pictures, and I am wondering about the taillight.
Great to see this here!

Re: R. S Stokvis e Zonen
A friend of mine also has a Stokvis &Zn bike from roughly the same time, but that's a rebadged Gruno Adek I think because it has a 'rotor lakwerk' badge and the paint really is in quite good condition for the life that bike's had.
Either way, it could be that yours is also a rebadged Gruno Adek. I don't think the front and rear wheel hubs are original. The front hub is a racer type hub with quick release. The rear hub should say Torpedo and not Favorit and also have a more modern reaction arm.

Hi,
Thank you for your information. I´ll check out the Gruno Adek that you've mentioned, it might bring some light to the question.
Thank you very much.

Re: R. S Stokvis e Zonen
I do not think there are any rebadged Gruno-Adek bicycles. Gruno-Adek was sold in 1955 to Stokvis. Bicycles of the Stokvis, Gruno and Adek brands were produced in the same factory in Uden, Netherlands. Models of Stokvis and Gruno and Adek really looked the same after 1958. Characteristic for most models is a little round tool box at the end of the luggage carrier.

Hello,
Ok, thank you for answering. My bike has really that round tool box on the luggage carrier (without lids) that you mentioned and it reads "R S" on the plate, with one crown on each side of the text.
Good to get feed-back.
Many thanks,
Kind regards,
Malin

Re: R. S Stokvis e Zonen
Then what happened when Stokvis bought the assets of Gruno Adek in 1955? I assumed at least part of the inventory was badged Stokvis and sold, especially since the Stokvis bike of my friend has a small badge proclaiming Rotor paint.
