Gazelle No. 1 Logo

Hi,

in the process of restoring an old Gazelle No. 1 from 1958, I'm currently trying to create the Gazelle No. 1 logo, which was present on the seat tube.

Unfortunately on my frame it was painted over, so that I had to use pictures from the internet. I attached the picture of my current process.

Can somebody tell me if the logo is right or can provide a good picture of it?

It seems that in the 50s and 60s the logo was modified a little bit frequently.

Thanks for your support :-)

Best wishes

Jan

looks nice, but if you accept the lesser quality of water based replica tranfers, you could also buy them at Pelders:

I did some research on this a few years ago.

As a result, I made this overview showing different models in relation to the age of the bike.
I have named them model 1 to 4 respectively.

Know that there is defenitely some mistery left here, as some bikes does not match with this view.

As for your drawing, I would say that your transfer model matches the age of your bike, which is 1957.
However, the "Nr1" is not the same 'Font' as found on the original. That would need some modification, if you want to make it more authentic.
I also notice some sharpenings here and there, that make it look like 'fake'.

Here is a picture of how the transfer would look like (although it is a 1957 Nr8 instead of a Nr1).
Unfortunately I did not find a decent looking Nr1 of that age in my database.

Also notice that these transfers are Clear, not Black.
I have added one of a green bike to show this.
They usualy become black by adding it on a black tube.

Last year, 'fietser' brought the following contrary transfer to my attention. This model has a golden background with black (or clear) lettering.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Ed,

thanks again for so much helpful information.

Actually the remains of the logo on my Gazelle No. 1 are looking exactly as in your last picture (Gold background with transparent letters). That is what my logo is based on. It's like an inverted version of the 57-61 variant.

Maybe before sandblasting the frame I gonna try to remove the color from the overpainted logo to fetch some more details.

I will fix the font for the No. 1 and then look out for a shop to print the decal.
