Gazelle Sport Luxe '67 bracket as gebroken, onderdelen?
Beste forumleden,
for a few months now I am looking for some help. I am from Germany but I just know less dutch words, so I hope you excuse my english.
I have a Gazelle Herenfiets Sport Luxe from about 1967, bought in Venlo. When I continued my ride after a trafficlight, suddenly the left pedal and crank were turning its own rounds. So I decided to demount everything and did find out, that the axle is broken. I went to a lot bycicle garages around Hamburg, Cologne and Bonn, a few ot them specialised in old bikes but none of the mechanists did see these dimensions of the axle ever before. One mechanists gave me the hint to try antiekefietsen.nl, but no solution. So I guess you are my last chance. I took some pictures to illustrate my problems and capture the measurements.
I uploaded them to dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5t0ioc0w6c9tm5y/vg5KeQFlmP
If I should, I can upload them here too.
Is there a possibility to replace the axle, like where do I get one from, or is there another way to keep this nice Gazelle crank/treadle?
I would be glad about any answer or advice! If you need further or bigger fotos please tell me!

oei, dat heb ik nog nooit gezien, een Gazelle as die zomaar doormidden gaat!!!
@ TS:
this happens with oldtimer Gazelle bikes that go outside the Benelux. They brake because of Emotional stress. That is why Gazelle has made Export models in the past!
The only solution for you is to bring it back
Christian,
Your bike has fixed bearings, which is good.
You best start to push the brooken axle out of the crank's.
The only thing you need is the shaft itself (and 2 new bearings, probably 5003 I guess).
To find a replacement shaft should not be too much of a problem.
I will buy a bunch of these shafts in a month or so. If you don't have a solution by then, I can help you.
Ed.

Hello,
it's not very common, typical one of these 'special things' Gazelle made, just to show off that their bikes are better - don't get me wrong though, I love my Gazelle nr 1, it's older than myself and still goes strong.
If you want to replace this with an original part, it may be a bit difficult to find, but I'm willing to look if I can find the axle (only the axle, since your cartridge seems fine and the bearing, I trust Ed's opinion that theyr are the standard 5003 bearings). That would onky be next week somewhere that I have time to look.
If you're too fussed about keeping the bike original, you could of course replace it with a failry easy to buy replacement 'inslag' bottom bracket. Like this one (the one with cotters obviously). I don't specially like them, and mounting these plastic cups can be a bit of a hassle, but they're dirt cheap and readily available.
Do you have more pictures of the bike? (on this forum we love to watch pictures of old bicycles ).
Grts, Anton.

Sorry, my mistake.

By the way, these days you can buy a model of this bearing that is completely sealed. It is perhaps not completely necessary, but I think it is a nice feature and gives extra confidence that the bearing will never fail.

True, but that creates friction! It's a sportsbike, hèhèJocoFoto schreef:By the way, these days you can buy a model of this bearing that is completely sealed. It is perhaps not completely necessary, but I think it is a nice feature and gives extra confidence that the bearing will never fail.
If the bike was mine, i would choose a 6003Z or 6003ZZ which has a metal dust cap.
But he has to find a proper schaft first!
Christian, I wonder if the bike has the label "met kogellagers" already? They did that in the 70's, but I don't know when they start doing it.

Ja joh, je hebt gelijk.JocoFoto schreef:PuristTrue, but that creates friction! It's a sportsbike, hèhè
Groeten,
Ed.

Re: Gazelle Sport Luxe '67 bracket as gebroken, onderdelen?
Wow, thanks for the fast replies!
Could be a good shaft and cheap bearings?
But I also like the idea of the "inslag bottom bracket" maybe as an interim solution. So, I could use the bike, wait for good spare parts and replace it. Otherwise this contains the risk, that it will be mounted until it brakes, but why not. I can just buy the linked ones, right?
In the next days I can take some further pictures and upload them.

That's what the mechanists told me too. Maybe your right with the export bikes. But I had a good feeling that the old lady feels comfortable here.asterduc schreef:oei, dat heb ik nog nooit gezien, een Gazelle as die zomaar doormidden gaat!!!
Now, that I heard there could be a solution I can tryasterduc schreef: You best start to push the brooken axle out of the crank's.
Ok, that sounds good to me. I never bought bearings before, so I´m not sure where to buy these. Ebay, like that offer?asterduc schreef: The only thing you need is the shaft itself (and 2 new bearings, probably 5003 I guess).

That sounds good to me too. Please take your time, I'm abstinent since August or something, I can't count anymore, so it doesn't matter.tdebruin schreef: If you want to replace this with an original part, it may be a bit difficult to find, but I'm willing to look if I can find the axle [...]. Neither I can tell you that. When I bought it, it was used and rusty already. Due to the framenumber I find out on http://www.rijwiel.net that it could be from 1967: 2149209asterduc schreef: Christian, I wonder if the bike has the label "met kogellagers" already? Hello again,
a quick look in the home-workshop delivered these 2 axles. If you need extra measurements, let me know.
grts Anton.
