Hello,

I send to the forum some pictures of my Nr8 gazelle kruisframe recently restored.
I think it is from 1950.

dear Eric,

although the bike looks nice and shiny, I doubt that it is a 1950 model.

Verify the serial number very carefully, I wouldn't be surpriced that the serial number is 1868894 and not 868894.
Reason for this is that some parts like the Gazelle logos, decals and rear light are '60's models.

Very exceptional however is the size of the frame. From the pictures it looks like a 55cm model. Most crossframes are 61cm or 66 models. I have seen only few that were smaller then 61cm.

If you want to see some more Gazelle crossframe (and Trim Sport) bikes in detail, you can look at my Picasa Webalbum.

There is an album named "more Gazelle webalbums" in which are links to other Gazelle collectors. Notice also the album from Cyril, who lives in your area.

Regards,
Ed

okay Eric,

the frame looks repainted, I believe from the picture, it is power coated. A new transfer (from approx. later then 1959) is used.
There could have been a '1' in front of your serial number.
By sanding and repainting this could have goe easily.

BUT ... the luggage carrier mounting system is defenitely no later then 1956. So, based on that I would assume that the frame is Autumm 1951.

BUT ... as far as I can see, all other parts do not belong to a 1951 model. They are all from the sixtees.
- handlebar
- transfer
- headset and logo
- fenders
- brake rods
- cranks and pedals

To me this looks like a restauration project with a 1951 frame and parts from a 1960 bike.

Don't let this disapoint you.
If you like the bike ad you love drinig it, then it does what it has to do.

Good luck.
Regards,
Ed.

Hello,

After your comments concerning the look of the bicycle and its heterogenous aspect I measured the framesize and found 60 cms.

Then I went on the internet to see pictures of the model 8. It seems that the cross is thinner and longer in this model than on my bicycle (does anyone can give me a measured size in cm?)

this could be the original model

any advice ???

all these cross frames look a bit alike. The difference is in details. Look at the undersize ballhead lug of the Raleigh and compare it to your bicycle.
Look at the lug in the 'cross' of the Raleigh: it has only two outside 'pipes'. I own a Raleigh crossframe myself, pictures are on this forum.
Your bicycle is really a Gazelle. It was just modernised during the restoration.
take care,
Maarten

the green gazelle x frame is a repainted bike.

I have been in contact with the seller of the Green x frame.
the black also seems to be repainted and gebiest?

looks like fun from further

I just took the picture of the green bike as example to see if it was the same model than mine.

As asterduc told me it is a short bike, I measured the frame this week end. The size is not 60cm but 57 cms.

I found also two inscriptions on the frame the first is on the left size of the frame 1181BN35

and the second is Under the frame, Under the pedal box Two letter "GC"
