Burgers Octrooi stuur

Burgers heeft in 1935 ocrooi gekregen op een stuur met stangenremmen. Dit stuur zorgde er voor dat beide remmen gelijk werden aangetrokken.
In de catalogus van 1939 staat hier een afbeelding van. Ik had tot nu toe nog nooit een stuur in het echt gezien. Afgelopen jaar heeft Wiwit , onze indonesische collega verzamelaar/liefhebber een Burgers mohawk via marktplaats gekocht. Foto's hiervan staan op facebook. Deze fiets heeft zo'n stuur. ik plaats hierbij wat foto's van stuur, afbeelding uit de catalogus van 1939 en de octrooiaanvraag.

Hi Theo and Wiwit,
I have something I wonder about in this construction.
I read in the patent-reading that the rear brake comes in action first and then the front brake.
On the other hand the photo`s seem to show left and right handle fixed together as if being one .
I am wondering if there is a smart system I do not see on the photo??
Or is this difference in braking made by adjusting the brake`s them selves instead of a special system at the handlebars
Can one of you explain this?

As far as I can see the special rod brake handlebars of Wiwit's bike which are shown in the 1939 Burgers catalogue are completely different from the Burgers patent which was filed six years earlier. It's just that both address the same "problem". With Wiwit's bike it should work like the catalogue says: the rear brake engages first because of the adjustment of both brakes (adjustment rods). That means that the front brake will never be 100% engaged.

In the 1936 Burgers catalogue there are no special or patented handlebars mentioned so the invention from 1933 will probably have had a short life.

Ik heb onlangs een aantal catalogi van het historisch museum Deventer geleend en gescand. die komen binnenkort in de documentatiebank. Daarbij zat ook de catalogus van 1934. Tot mijn verassing staat daar een afbeelding in van dit octrooi stuur. maar dan een andere uitvoering. Ik heb deze nog nooit gezien. In de catalogi van daarna zien we deze niet meer terug. Pas in 1939 verschijnt dit stuur weer maar dan in aangepaste vorm. Wellicht duikt er nog een keer zo'n fiets met dit stuur op.
